Eagles soar past Bishop Kenny Crusaders to win the FHSAA 5A State Championship
Poinciana’s athleticism and defense dominated the game resulting in a 66-42 win. The Eagles lead the Crusaders for the majority of the game and ended the half with a 24-16 lead.
The Eagles came out of the half
demanding the Crusaders abandon their zone as they patiently moved the ball
until they got an open alley oop. This
set the tone for the remainder of the second half. Poinciana’s guards continued to buzz around
the ball which led to several steals. Poinciana’s
Brandon Murat, ended the 3rd Qtr with a steal and a buzzer beating
layup.
The Crusader’s continued to fight led by Chris Joyce, who finished with 14 points and Christian Carlyle who finished with 13 points.
However, it was not enough to bridge the gap
which continued to widen. The team was
led by guard Brandon Murat who had the game high of 14 points, Nate Louis, who finished
with 12 points, and forward Kimar Edwards who finished with 10 points.
