With the Girls Basketball season over and state champions crowned, Florida Prospects releases our Florida Prospects Girls Basketball Teams.

It wasn’t pretty or the type of game Miami Norland Lady Vikings is accustomed to playing but at the end of the day the Lady Vikings got the same result, a victory and another state championship defeating Pensacola 43-38 in overtime for the 4A state championship.

The Boca Ciega Lady Pirates jumped out to an early 9-0 lead against the Dillard Lady Panthers in the 5A title game causing the Panthers to call a time-out. After the time-out the Panthers woke up led by senior Dawn Maye as they defeated the Lady Pirates 53-44 to win the 5A state championship.

The 5A State Finals features two of the best teams in the state. Here is are preview of the game.

The Rock Lions came into the class 1A state final looking to win the first state Girls Basketball Title in the Gainesville area since 1997. The Lions had to wait until the final second of the game to accomplish their goal defeating the Hollywood Christian Eagles 51-48.

Today marked the first day of the Girls Basketball state championships in Lakeland. Here is a recap of the first day.

FEBRUARY is defined as a month of heartaches, tears, drained emotions, and uncompleted tasks. Additionally, it’s a month of joy, relief, cheerfulness, and high spirits. Each team competing in the State Finals, will have an opportunity to define it’s own FEBRUARY, this week.

In a match-up between county powers Boca Ciega held on to defeat the Clearwater Lady Tornadoes 54-53 in an overtime victory to advance to the Regional finals.

Spoto opened the game with the first basket but then it was all downhill after that as St. Petersburg Lakewood’s offense was on cruise control, beating the Spartans 72-37 in the opening round of the 4A girls basketball championship.

After losing their first game of the year in the district finals to Apopka, the Lady Panthers of Orlando Dr. Phillips was ready to get back on the court and start a new winning streak. It didn’t take them long to start the streak as they easily defeated the Vero Beach Lady Indians 59-34 in the first round of the 6A state playoffs.

After going to the final four in the 2007 season, the Pompano Blanche Ely Lady Tigers entered the 2008 year with high expectations. The Tigers rose to the challenge during the regular season going 22-2 and winning the district title for the second consecutive year. Unfortunately, their dream season came to an end losing in the first round to the eventual state champions South Broward. Now with a younger team and many of the experts counting them out, the Lady Tigers feel they are ready once again to prove the critics wrong.

The Second Annual Fun In The Sun Tournament concluded with a Team Breakdown victory over Hollywood Eagles in the title game. Team Breakdown was led by Sandra Garcia (American Heritage H.S.) with 14 points and Aerial Wilson (Rockledge H.S.) with 11 points to secure a 47-46 win over the Eagles.
