On Friday, St. Petersburg Lakewood and St. Petersburg Gibbs played to a sold out crowd to open the season. This neighborhood rivalry had a buzz going through the city and with new coaches and high expectations; the game was talked about throughout Pinellas County.

It took 46 years for Jacksonville Robert E. Lee to return to the state final four and for three and a half quarters it looked as if they would be continuing their Cinderella season as they hung tough against state power St. Petersburg Lakewood in the first semifinal game of the 5A Region. Unfortunately for the Generals, the clock struck midnight on their season as Lakewood defeated Lee 57 to 44.

As usual, the state of Florida produces a couple of players that arises from nowhere to have a dynamic season. This year, look for RB Jarrell Lamb of St. Petersburg Northeast to be one of the surprise players of the state.

When you play wide receiver in the state of Florida, it is often easy to be overlooked. With so many great athletes around the state, if you are not producing mind boggling stats or playing for one of the better schools, you can get the dreaded label of being an ordinary player.
